New Surgery Fellow at NYU Langone

The first Ambrose Monell Skull Base Surgery Fellow, Dr. Rajeev Sen, began his training at NYU Langone in July 2024.

 

Rajeev Sen, MD was born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in New York, NY. He graduated from Columbia University in 2012 with a degree in biophysics. While at Columbia, Dr. Sen worked with Nobel laureate neuroscientist Eric Kandel, MD, sparking his interest in the brain. Dr. Sen continued his education in New York at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, during which time he developed an interest in brain tumors while working in the lab of Dimitris Placantonakis, MD, PhD, studying glioblastoma stem cells, which led to his desire to become a neurosurgeon.

 

He recently completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Washington and is pursuing advanced neurosurgical training through the Ambrose Monell Fellowship in Skull Base Surgery at NYU Langone.

 

Dr. Sen already has a great connection into NYU Langone Neurosurgery, through his work during medical school and the department is delighted to have him back as the inaugural Ambrose Monell Skull Base Surgery Fellow.


Dr. Sen's journey into the field of neurosurgery has been marked by a series of significant milestones and experiences that have shaped his career path. His academic background at Columbia University, where he collaborated with renowned neuroscientist Eric Kandel, provided him with a solid foundation in biophysics and ignited his passion for understanding the complexities of the brain. This early exposure to cutting-edge research laid the groundwork for his future endeavors in the field of neurosurgery. During his time at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Dr. Sen delved deeper into the realm of brain tumors while working under the mentorship of Dr. Dimitris Placantonakis. His research on glioblastoma stem cells not only showcased his scientific acumen but also solidified his resolve to specialize in neurosurgery. This pivotal period of academic exploration and hands-on experience set the stage for his subsequent accomplishments in the field.


Having completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Washington, Dr. Sen now embarks on a new chapter in his professional development as the Ambrose Monell Skull Base Surgery Fellow at NYU Langone. His return to NYU Langone represents a homecoming of sorts, as he reunites with familiar faces and a supportive environment that has played a significant role in shaping his career trajectory. As the inaugural Ambrose Monell Skull Base Surgery Fellow, Dr. Sen's appointment signifies a testament to his dedication, expertise, and potential within the field of neurosurgery. His journey from a budding researcher at Columbia University to a distinguished fellow at NYU Langone exemplifies a remarkable evolution driven by passion, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
