Sutter California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) is a private, not-for-profit medical center comprised of four hospitals in San Francisco. CPMC’s hospitals are among the smartest, safest and greenest in the nation. CPMC serves San Francisco residents with a full range of services including acute, post-acute and outpatient hospital care; home care and hospice services; preventive and complementary care; health education; community health programs; a medical education program and a Research Institute. As part of the Sutter Health network, more than 3.5 million patients across Northern California receive the most comprehensive, integrated and connected healthcare. CPMC’s roots stretch back more than 150 years. Today, it encompasses four major locations: the Van Ness Campus, Mission Bernal Campus, Davies Campus, and Pacific Heights Outpatient Center. Across the region, patients are referred to CPMC for advanced care in conducting organ transplantation and treating cancer and neurological conditions.
Philanthropic partnerships help to unlock possibilities to transform healthcare. Committed to health equity, community partnerships and innovative, high-quality patient care, Sutter Health is pursuing a bold new plan to reach more people and make excellent healthcare more connected and accessible. CPMC is ranked among the top 20 hospitals in California by U.S. News & World Report and was specifically recognized as “High Performing” in the areas of cancer, gastroenterology and GI surgery, nephrology, orthopedics, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure and hip and knee replacement. Likewise, CPMC earned a multi-year certification in 2023 from the American Hospital Association and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement for its distinguished elder care and provider of age-friendly, evidence-based practices. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services awarded CPMC’s Mission Bernal campus five stars – the highest possible ranking – in the Overall Hospital Quality category for 2023. CPMC combines the expertise of an academic medical center with the compassion and convenience of a community hospital.
Ambrose Monell Foundation’s generous investments in the Area of Greatest Need contribute to CPMC’s ability to approve and fund requests made by physicians and nurses always with the aim of improving patient care. This happens through the Grants & Disbursements Committee of the CPMC Foundation Board of Trustees, which reviews and either approves or denies requests for funding to support a range of innovative projects and technology upgrades. These funds seed, enhance and expand a variety of areas throughout CPMC, including the cancer center, surgical services, cardiology, the adult intensive care unit (ICU), transplant department and newborn intensive care unit (NICU). Examples of requests that were recently funded through this process include: New Technology for Real-Time Diagnosis of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease; New Technology for Extended, More Accurate CPR in Emergency and ICU Departments; Alcohol Addiction Team for Liver Transplants; and Post-Discharge Care Navigation Advisors.
